It has scenic\u00a0mountain ranges reaching a maximum altitude of\u00a01200m, extraordinary cliffs made from volcanic stone and pristine white sand beaches. \u00a0The amazing water colors, ranging from green turquoise, to deep and transparent blue gives a feeling of tranquility to the soul.<\/p>\n<p>It is a perfect place to experience snorkeling, freediving, scuba diving, hiking, kayaking, camping, stand-up paddle boarding and sailing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-871 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.freefallacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Sea-Lion-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freefallacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Sea-Lion-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.freefallacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Sea-Lion.jpg 674w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 316px) 100vw, 316px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Espiritu Santo Island is apart of the Archipelago of Espiritu Santo, which\u00a0became a <a href=\"http:\/\/pnaes.conanp.gob.mx\/\">National Park<\/a> in 2007. Espiritu Santo Island is located in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gulf_of_California\">Gulf of California<\/a>, North of La Paz, Baja California Sur. \u00a0Furthermore, it became an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/1182\">UNESCO<\/a> World Natural Heritage Site in 2005 along with 243 other islands, islets and coastal areas in the Gulf of California. \u00a0These areas contain 39% of the world&#8217;s total number of species of marine mammals and a third of the world&#8217;s marine cetacean species.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the island contains many habitats, such as mangroves, sandy bottoms, rocky reefs, estuaries, beautiful isolated beaches and bays. It\u2019s perfect for all kinds of people, from little kids who want to start exploring the underwater world, to experienced divers that would like to see why the Sea of Cortez is called the &#8220;aquarium of the world&#8221;.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_868\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-868\" style=\"width: 406px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-868\" src=\"http:\/\/www.freefallacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Dolphins-300x230.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"406\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freefallacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Dolphins-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.freefallacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Dolphins-768x588.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.freefallacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Dolphins-1024x784.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 406px) 100vw, 406px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-868\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A group of common dolphins in BCS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><strong>The Flora and Fauna<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Espiritu Santo Island has 38 species of plants and animals that are unique (or endemic) in the whole World. \u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/sudcalifornios.com\/item\/biologia-endemica-de-bcs-2\">juancito<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.projectnoah.org\/spottings\/11600089\">babisuri<\/a>, the black hare and the sandy snake are examples. Furthermore, there are 200 species of plants and more than 70 species of animals (not counting the ones underwater).<\/p>\n<p>As you submerge before the surface you can find\u00a0at least 15 species of marine mammals, including dolphins, whales and the famous colony of sea lions. \u00a0In addition, you can find more than 50 species of aquatic birds gracing the waters, airways and cliffs.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Sea Lions of Espiritu Santo Island<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Sea Lions that live in the islets called \u201cLos Islotes\u201d or \u201cLa Lobera\u201d are a species scientifically called <em>Zalophus californianus<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_870\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-870\" style=\"width: 384px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-870\" src=\"http:\/\/www.freefallacademy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Lobos-Marinos--300x196.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"251\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-870\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A big group of Sea Lions at &#8220;La Lobera&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As well as other marine mammals, sea lions are very curious. This attitude has to do with exploration and playing. The young ones are especially playful; they might even play with your fins or other \u201cweird\u201d equipment. Think about a cute little puppy, then put it underwater, let it evolve and you will have a beautiful playful sea lion.<\/p>\n<p>These beautiful creatures are on the island all year around. Los Islotes contain about 500 sea lions every year. The reproduction season initiates with the birth of the pups at the end of May. \u00a0Continuing with the breast-feeding and mating time around June, July and August.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss the opportunity to swim or dive with these beautiful animals in Espiritu Santo Island.
