Ethical Encounters
Respect for marine life is at our core—no forcing interactions, just letting the whales choose how they engage with us.
Going on Seafari with Freefall academy has been one of the best experiences of my life. I got to see and swim with amazing wildlife. Plus, the tour guide, Valentina, is an actual marine biologist who knows the best ways to approach and swim with the different species we encountered. She also taught us a fairly thorough and very interesting “mini class” on the animals that inhabit the area. As if that wasn’t enough, these guys are also certified free diving instructors so they take amazing underwater photos and will give you an introductory course if you’re interested. In short, Seafari with Freefall Academy is the whole package: awesome encounters, attentive and well prepared staff and delicious snacks.

Tour Description
MOBULA SAFARI – SWIM WITH THOUSANDS OF RAYS
The Mobula Safari is one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences in Baja. From April to June, La Ventana becomes home to the largest aggregation of mobula rays in the world. Imagine slipping into the water and finding yourself surrounded by hundreds—sometimes thousands—of rays soaring, leaping, and gliding all around you.
Every day is unique. Sometimes we find dolphins, sea lions, or even whales in the same area. The ocean decides what it wants to show us, and that’s the magic of this adventure. With our marine biologist guide and experienced local captains, you’ll witness this spectacle ethically and up close—never chasing, always respecting.

When is the season? Best time to go?
Here is a breakdown month by month:
April → Peak mobula season. Huge schools gather, though visibility can be lower and water is cooler (64–72°F / 18–22°C). Still, this month delivers massive numbers of rays. You may also see humpback and blue whales, plus the chance of orcas and many more other species.
May → Still peak mobula season, with warming water and improving visibility. Blue whales are still around, and whale sharks begin to show up. Plus the chance of orcas and many more other species.
June → Visibility keeps getting better and the water warms up (26–28°C / 78–82°F). Mobulas start to thin out but are still present. Giant mantas arrive this month, and whale sharks are often seen. Orcas remain possible throughout and many other species.
Year after year, April to June bring the most mobulas. And at any time, the ocean might surprise you with orcas or other unexpected giants.

What’s the difference between an Ocean Safari and a Mobula Safari?
They’re essentially the same experience — a full day trip out at sea looking for incredible wildlife encounters. The difference is the season:
🐟 Mobula Safari (April–June): peak season for the famous mobula ray aggregations, so we focus on finding them first and then head offshore to find other wildlife. You’ll have the best chances to witness thousands of rays leaping from the water, along with other seasonal species.
🌊 Ocean Safari (July–December): when mobulas are no longer around in large numbers, but the focus is still on finding diverse marine life. Depending on the month, you might encounter Dolphins, Whales, Sea Lions, Giant Manta Rays, Orcas and more.
In both safaris, every day is unique — the ocean decides which animals show up.
Yes we offer private tours. When you click the Book Now button you will see the different packages available and you’ll find the private charter option.
From December to April we recommend to bring warm jacket, socks and layers. It can get pretty cold in the morning and it can get warmer during the day.
If you have your own gear you’re welcome to bring it.
Optional: camera, reusable water bottle (we try to minimize plastic consumption. We will have reusable plastic cups and water in case you don’t have your own water bottle.
If you get seasick we recommend to have a dramamine that morning.
