La Ventana Ocean Safari : A Wildlife Adventure With Endless Possibilities

Every Ocean Safari is unrepeatable — explore Baja’s wildlife with a marine biologist. Small-group snorkeling & freediving. Connect with wildlife.

Expect the Unexpected

Scientists call La Ventana’s waters a biodiversity hotspot — abundance, diversity, and unpredictability all in one place. One day it’s mobulas and dolphins, the next whales and sea lions, maybe even orcas or blue whales. The ocean decides what you’ll see — that unpredictability is the magic.

Tour Description

🌊 OCEAN SAFARI – SWIM WITH BAJA’S WILDLIFE 🌊

An ocean safari is not like visiting a dive site.
Here, we head out in search of whatever the ocean decides to gift us that day.
Every outing is different—there’s no script, just the thrill of exploration.

With the help of a marine biologist guide and local captains, we go in search of as much wildlife as possible: mobula rays, dolphins, whales, sea lions, and sometimes even rare encounters with orcas, blue whales, and more.

Whenever conditions allow, we get in the water to snorkel or freedive with the animals—always with an ethical approach, never chasing or disturbing.

Do we see Orcas?

Orca encounters in Baja are wild and unpredictable — and that’s part of the magic. They can be seen all year, with more frequent sightings in spring and summer, but never guaranteed. Swimming with Orcas is now permitted in Mexico, following certain guidelines.

And it’s not only about orcas: Baja’s seas are a true biodiversity hotspot. In a single day, you might find yourself swimming alongside dolphins, mobula rays, sea lions, turtles, or even orcas. Every outing is different, and that’s what makes each Ocean Safari unforgettable.

When is the season? Best time to go?

It really depends on what you’re looking for. 🌊

  • Year-round wildlife: You can almost always see bottlenose dolphins, sea lions, and turtles on our trips. Orcas are also possible any time of year with (although now every day), with a peak from April–August.
  • July–October: Incredible conditions — warm water (most people don’t even use a wetsuit!) and crystal-clear visibility of 20–30m+.
  • November–December: Water cools down a bit (a 3mm wetsuit is perfect) and visibility starts to drop slightly, but conditions are still very good.

What’s the difference between an Ocean Safari and a Mobula Safari?

They’re essentially the same experience — a full day trip out at sea looking for incredible wildlife encounters. The difference is the season:

  • 🐟 Mobula Safari (April–June): peak season for the famous mobula ray aggregations. You’ll have the best chances to witness thousands of rays leaping from the water, along with other seasonal species.
  • 🌊 Ocean Safari (July–December): when mobulas are no longer around in large numbers, but the focus is still on finding diverse marine life. Depending on the month, you might encounter Dolphins, Whales, Sea Lions, Giant Manta Rays, Orcas and more.

In both safaris, every day is unique — the ocean decides which animals show up.
